[Visual Stimuli] Bridalveil Fall

Bridalveil Fall is perhaps the most recognizable waterfalls in Yosemite National Park, even more than the namesake Yosemite Falls. Like other falls here, in the spring and early summer, when snow is melting, a huge volume of water comes over the falls. They get smaller and the water slows to a trickle late summer and winter. The fall is a 617 foot plunge from a hanging valley to the floor of Yosemite Valley. The fall gets its name because (when the flow of water is low) the falling water gets caught by the wind and blown like a bride's veil.

This is the first major waterfall you see when coming into the park from the west and is prominently visible from Tunnel View.

A nice shot of Bridalveil Fall taken from the far side of the Merced River. The best overal view of a waterfall isn't allways the closest.

Bridalveil Fall
There was a lot of water and a heavy mist splashes covers the lower area. There is a bit too much water flowing to get the bridal veil effect.

Bridalveil Fall
A closer view of the base of the waterfall when there isn't much water flowing. When there is a lot of water you probably wouldn't be able to see these rocks.
